As
depicted on the cover, this month is the
anniversary of the destructive Johnstown Flood of
1889. It really brings home the recent coverage of
the tsunami in Japan, and the unbelievable force
rushing water can have on structures and an entire
city
The Johnstown Area Heritage Association
and the National Park service will offer a Flood
Commemorative Tour on the 21st (visit
JAHA.org
for full details). And for even further exploration
of Johnstown's sometimes tragic past and amazing
recoveries, the Flood Museum is open daily from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. Also of interest is "From
Scholarship to Souvenirs: Telling the Story of the
Johnstown Flood" a temporary exhibit in the
museum's third floor galleries showing how various
media have recalled the flood over the past
century
There will be a special event, "A
Look Back at Johnstown: 30 Years of Photography by
Russel Heffley," held at 2 p.m. on the 22nd at the
Heritage Discovery Center
